Ishmael Beah

I looked up some information on Ishmael Beah. He wrote the book A Long Way Gone and this is what I found. After he got to the states he went to college and he worked against the abuse of children during war time and he now works at the human rights watch children's division. The book A Long Way Gone was nominated for the Quill Award. It was in the top 10 books in 2007; it ranked number 3.

An apple on the table

hides its seeds

so neatly

but we talk and talk and talk

to let somebody

in.

The poem talks about people that keep their emotions in and don't want to show them but get talked in to sharing them. It relates to the book A Long Way Gone because Ishmael does not want to share what is inside of him but maybe eventually he will be talked in to sharing them and will realize that he's not a bad kid.
